INTERNATIONAL NEWS NATIONAL NEWS
COMBATING AVIAN FLU-- If you’re not scared, you’re not paying attention. Two new cases of bird flu in humans have been reported in China and Vietnam. Cases of avian flu have been uncovered from Europe to the Middle East. If that sounds too far away to care, think again. National and local health officials are gearing up for a possible outbreak of Avian Flu that could kill millions of people in the United States. Although a pandemic might take several years to materialize, scientists and politicians are preparing for a possible mass vaccination. See how New Hampshire, the federal government and the rest of the world is preparing for this health crisis.

THE COST OF WAR--It’s no secret that war is expensive and costs the nation money. Meanwhile, school is costing you lots of money. So how are the two linked? After all, don’t your taxes fund the war? Doesn’t the government have Pell grants to help you pay for school? Actually, not so much anymore.  Congress recently passed House Resolution 609, which decreased federal funding of student financial aid a whopping $14 billion. The money is being sucked out of almost every aspect of financial aid, from loans to grants and even student work programs. This translates into higher interest rates and loan fees for students, as well as much smaller Pell grants. But hey, someone has to pay for the war, right?

BLOGGING

Blog combines the words web and log. A web log, or blog, is an online journal of sorts, where people post opinions on various issues. In this section, the blogs are written by The Exchange staff, and it is their opportunity to inform you about issues you may not have thought about. Read and enjoy!

THE EXCHANGE: WHO WE ARE

Readers-

The FPC Exchange is comprised of a group of students who encourage civic journalism and ethical writing and reporting. But more importantly, we care about you and the news you read. Whether it is national or local, news often affects students in more ways than they realize. We want to help.

Just a click away, we bring to you a website with national news, local news, weather, academic information, and a look at professors, community figures, as well as student media, opinions and events on campus.

From students to students, we localize the news we feel is important to you, giving you a broad range of topics to choose from. We hope you enjoy our site, and are open to any suggestions you may have.

                                                       Sincerely,
