Immigration
Reform and the Price of Your Food It's no secret
that Western U.S. farmers rely primarily on migrant workers and
illegal immigrants to harvest most of their fruits and vegetables.
But as the border with Mexico becomes harder to cross, farmers are
experiencing worker shortages like never before. Many farmer's crops
never get picked. Because of this, food prices are expected to climb
exponentially in the coming years. And if President Bush cannot pass
his guest worker program through Congress, the problem will only get
worse. That means food service providers like Sodexho will be
spending more money for their products-- passing the bill on to the
consumer.

They’re Getting Away
Under the cover of night in Bagram, Afghanistan, four of the
most dangerous terrorists of Al Qaeda sit in the American prison
waiting to make their escape. In the early hours of the morning,
long before the sun rises, they pick the lock of the cell they
caused a false disturbance to get in to. Equipment that
ironically, is being used to make the prison more secure
temporarily blocks the cell from the view of the guards.
Although the guards’ view is only obstructed from the guards for
a few hours, it is long enough for the terrorists, one of whom
is believed to be Al Qaeda’s chief operative in Southeast Asia,
to make their escape. Sound like a movie? The most frightening
thing about this scenario is that it is not, and actually
occurred on July 11, 2005.

BLOGGING
Blog combines
the words web and log. A web log, or blog, is an
online journal of sorts, where people post opinions on various
issues. In this section, the blogs are written by The Exchange
staff, and it is their opportunity to inform you about issues
you may not have thought about. Stephen and Mike have updated their
blog sites, while others have added blogs for the first time. If you
would like to respond to something you have read on this site, email
us at Exchange@franklinpierce.edu.
Be sure to include the name of the person/blog you are responding

THE EXCHANGE:
WHO WE ARE
Readers-
The FPC Exchange is comprised of a group of students who
encourage civic journalism and ethical writing and
reporting. But more importantly, we care about you and the
news you read. Whether it is national or local, news often
affects students in more ways than they realize. We want to
help.
Just a click away, we bring to you a website with national
news, local news, weather, academic information, and a look
at professors, community figures, as well as student media,
opinions and events on campus.
From students to students, we localize the news we feel is
important to you, giving you a broad range of topics to
choose from. We hope you enjoy our site, and encourage you
to express any opinions, concerns or suggestions you may
have.
