Students Cope with Finals Week Stress by Fridrik Fridriksson Rindge, NH-- It is the end of the semester, finals are just around the corner and students are getting less sleep than any other time of the year. Many kids on campus are being bombarded with homework and tests. Students are handing in their final papers as well as studying for final exams. All this causes a lot of stress, but it can be prevented. There have been workshops throughout the semester on how to prepare for finals and how to organize your work time. Students sometimes put off their homework during the semester and then have to pay for it at the end of the semester when they are almost drowning in work. “The results of procrastination usually come to light around this time,” said sophomore Tim Paul. The school tries to help students out by having 24-hour quiet hours so they can study for exams. But that doesn’t work for all students. Some people, like Sophomore James Day, like to study with their music playing. He said that the strictly enforced 24-hour quiet period creates more stress for him. The library has also changed its schedule to better accommodate students. “The longer opening hours can really help out a lot if you have research papers to write and you need access to books late at night,” said sophomore Caitlin Marques, who is also a victim of her own procrastination. Christmas shopping also creates more stress since students have to make time for their family as well. “Having to drive a half hour away to buy Christmas presents for your family can be very time consuming, especially when you have to be studying for final exams,” said Paul. Most of the kids Paul knows are usually out of money by the end of the semester and Christmas shopping often adds to the piling stress. When finals end next week, students will certainly be happy to relax and get their much needed sleep. |
