Nothing's On Tom Novak (Feb. 1, 2006)
There are 800 some odd Channels and barely anything on!
The other night I was flipping through the channels on my satellite system and looking for something that would end up being somewhat entertaining..... Needless to say that after about 4 hours of channeling hopping, I came to a conclusion that no matter how many channels are offered by a satellite provider ( who will go nameless) there’s nothing really on.
This is unless you’re looking for a certain sort of programming…
For example, there’s plenty of programming for sports fan, which is fine if you eat breathe sports 24- 7. Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge baseball and Hockey fan I just like having the luxury of being able to choose when I want to watch sports…basically in moderation…
When it came to looking through the pay per view movies all that’s up for sale is moves that came out 2 months ago…
This left entertainment and general interest channels that include everything from local channel’s syndicated Pop culture shows like “Extra” and “Entertainment Tonight” and “Access Hollywood” which for the life of me I don’t know why but they ALL FOCUS ON THE SAME TOPIC! This is either related to the top 5 movies that are doing well in the box office and then beating them to death by showing what type of friggin toothpaste the starts of “Broke Back Mountain” used on set. Basically Stuff sane people don’t need to know. This then shifts to useless banter about the same handful of annoying Hollywood actors did this week that these producers feel the people of our culture must know before they go to bed… Though if you ask me how many people really care who or what Paris Hilton was caught sleeping with this week, what Lindsay Lohan destroyed with her car this week or how many new random homeless children Brad Pitt and the ugly girl from Tomb Raider adopted this week.
Basically its safe to say that no matter where you look our TV interests as a culture we care more about who is wearing or what or sleeping with who. More than how we as a culture could maybe better our selves in real world matters and maybe just maybe educate ourselves a little bit more....
