A Rhode Island woman
suffering from Multiple Sclerosis becomes the first person to
apply for state permission to legally use Marijuana under a new
law that was passed in her state. Rhode Island is now one of the
few states in the U.S. to allow the use of marijuana for
medicinal purposes. In order to apply for state permission a
person must have a serious medical condition and provide
certification from a doctor in their state that says that use of
marijuana may be helpful for the patient. Organizations such as
the SSDP are working hard to make this law possible in more
states to allow ill and dying patients to receive relief and the
medicines that doctors prescribe to them.
Lawmakers have approved a sweeping health care
reform package that dramatically expands coverage for the
state's uninsured, a bill that backers hope will become a model
for the rest of the nation
More controversy in Iraq after claims that
members of a new al-Qaida-affiliated group dragged the
burning body of a U.S. pilot out of an Apache Helicopter.
The helicopter was supposedly shot down by the gunmen and
footage of the groups actions were said to have been
recorded and released to the public. U.S. officials are said
to have doubts about whether this is really true. The U.S.
command confirmed that the helicopter was an Apache and that
the two crew members were "presumed dead," suggesting the
remains had not been found. Later the same day, U.S.
authorities said the bodies had been recovered. So if the
bodies of the U.S. troops were recovered where did the
bodies recorded on the tape come from?

This week Nick White explores one of the most influential decades
ofthe 20th century: the 1960's. The first
use of the 9-1-1 phone line,
the pioneer of American space flight,
star trek, and the first James
Bond movie are some of the lesser
known accomplishments of the
decade, however still intriguing to
learn about.
