Death Rate Decreasing--The National Center for Health Statistics released a study that states a two percent decrease in our nation’s death rate. Although other studies have showed Americas are becoming more lazy and obese, this study concludes we are also living longer. The NCHS attribute are longer lives to advancements in modern medicine. Heart disease is the leading cause of death, with cancer and strokes following in at two and three respectively.

Explosion near U.S. Embassy in Kabul-- There was a massive explosion near the US embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. Although officials were alarmed, there were no Americans harmed in the blast. The Pentagon and NATO are currently investigating. U.S. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said the explosion did not take place on embassy grounds. The explosion occurred at a building directly next to the embassy that houses a TV and police station.

FITZWATER SENIOR FILM FESTIVAL PREVIEW


     On Thursday, April 27th, the Fitzwater Center will be holding its second annual
     senior film festival. FPC TV Station Manager Dan Desrochers will be hosting the
     event, which will be broadcast live on channel 25 at 6:30 p.m.  In addition to viewing
     the films, attendants will be able to participate in an open forum with the artists.

     This is an opportunity for graduating students to share their work with the
     community and discuss the technical and artistic process in making their films.  So
     stay tuned—The Exchange will feature all of the movies on the website next week.

      Here is a quick preview of the senior films:

     The Pyrrhic Victory (8 min), directed by Stephen Lacey: A right wing
     secessionist, an undercover cop and a naïve junkie double cross each other during
     a small arms deal.

     Starving for Hunger (10 min), directed by Eric Casas-Rubin and Kyle Marsden
     Kish:
An aspiring rap artist must deal with the problems created by his drug
     addicted friend.

     Larry's Journal (10 min), directed by Jon Galed: A mentally disturbed man must
     deal with the repercussions of a horrible incident involving his best friend.

    
Big City Surprise (10 min), directed by Matt Descoteau: After the death of his
     parents, a young man must travel from his small town to the big city to find his long
     lost sibling.

     Roots of Creation Ethnography (10 min), directed by Soren Wills: A
     documentary on the history and musical work of the local band "Roots of Creation."

     Open Container Policy (10 min), directed by Carlye Petoff: An in-depth look at
     Franklin Pierce College's open container policy.

     There may be more films added in the coming days, so be sure to check out the final
     line up next Thursday night in the Fitzwater Center television studio.
