INTERNATIONAL NEWS NATIONAL NEWS

Armed Borders-Canadian borders will soon be armed said Prime Minister Stephen Harper.  It was announced on Thursday, August 31 that the guards along the 4,000 mile border that Canada shares with the U.S. will all be armed starting in 2007.  One-hundred and fifty guns will be distributed by March 2008.  The U.S. border guards are already armed.  This heightening in border security will make it more of a process for college students to visit the neighboring country.  When planning a trip to the culture rich city of Montreal it is strongly recommended to bring U.S. passports, birth certificates, state issued ID’s, and a clean car.

Decline in Gas Prices-The average price for gasoline fell 7.9 cents in the last week, the lowest level in more than four months.  Students are now paying an average of $2.85 a gallon for unleaded gasoline and even cheaper in the Monadnock region as the gas price is currently $2.79 in Jaffrey at the full-service CITGO station and at the Sunoco station on Rte. 119 in Rindge (past intersection of Rte. 202).  More declines in the price of gas could be on the way as Tropical Storm Ernesto moves away from the oil producing areas in the Gulf of Mexico.  As the summer driving season comes to an end, more price drops are expected.  Diesel fuel fell only 0.6 cent last week to $3.03 a gallon.

PROFS INTO PEOPLE

Before they were the person responsible for all the papers you have to
write and tests to study for, our professors were actually normal people
like you and me. Last semester we here at here at the Exchange profiled
a professor every month in an attempt to make them more, well, human.
And we've learned quite a few interesting fact about our fearless leaders,
