Sielicki's words worry some on campus

Faculty and students are now reacting to next week's Senate forum with state and local law enforcement agencies and the recent comment of Rindge Police Chief Michael Sielicki claiming he would control the campus.

Pierce Arrow Editor-in-Chief Trent Spiner wrote the article  "Public drinking draws Rindge Police" in the October 18 Arrow.  In that article Sielicki is quoted as saying, "I've made no bones about it, I'm going to control that campus one way or the other."

Spiner said the interview with Sielicki was early this month, but couldn't remember an exact date, although it was before alumni weekend.  Spiner said, “I thought it was very well received. I don't think it stirred people up at all.  It said the facts and put them out in the open.”

Pierce Council member Robin Marra welcomes the Senate forum with Sielicki and representatives of the state's alcohol enforcement agency.  “I'm glad Sielicki is coming to try and foster some dialogue between the students and Rindge," Marra said.

Senior Jonathan Perri is concerned about Sielicki's comment in the Arrow.  "Sielicki says he will 'control' this campus one way or the other. If escalating the arrests clearly isn't working, I am afraid of what his next step might be,' Perri said.

The lecture hall in Marcucella will be the forum's site. There will be other rooms with closed-circuit cameras where overflow audience members will be able to watch and phone in questions.

The SGA exec board did not wish to comment.
