The health benefits of a glass of wine each day

     With the holidays coming up feel free to indulge in a glass of wine with your holiday dinner or at a holiday party.  In fact, you might be helping yourself out by doing so.    

     A study done in the 90's showed that the French, who consume wine each day were significantly healthier despite their diets which were high in cheese fats.  Why is this?

     After this study came out the world was flooded with information about the health benefits of wine.  What is about wine that is so good for you? First, resveratrol, an antioxidant found in red grape skins, and therefore red wine.  Now there is a great deal of research that shows there are many health benefits to drinking white wine as well.  In fact, winemakers are altering the way they make wine in order to increase the health benefits. 

     Some of the health benefits from drinking wine include: Anti-aging effects from drinking red wine.  Also, increased lung function from the antioxidants in white wine.  Wine is also good for the heart, it has been show to reduce coronary heart disease and help the health of blood vessels in the elderly.  Wine also reduces the amount of ulcer-causing bacteria, and kills cancer cells due to the proteins in red grape skins.  Wine has also been shown to reduce strokes by keeping arteries clean with polyphenols in red grape skins.  The consumption of wine has many health benefits for women too including: decreased ovarian cancer risk, stronger bones, and lower risk of stroke.  Wine can benefit the health of men as well by reducing the risk of men with high blood pressure from heart attack.

     The secret to all these health benefits is moderation.  The over consumption of wine has actually been shown to increase some of these health risks.  While a glass or two of wine each day has been shown to help a person's health in many ways.
