Will Peyton Manning Choke?

by Jason Gilbert
Exchange Staff

All the lights, camera and eyes will be on Peyton Manning, Sunday. Can he finally win a championship? For those who do not know, Manning has had a title shot before in his college days at Tennessee. The outcome? You guessed it, a loss to Nebraska in the 1998 FedEx Orange Bowl. The score was 42-17, a Manning choke which all the New England-ers have grown to love. Manning threw for only 134 yards with one interception and a lone touchdown.

Sure, Manning finally won a semi-big game against the Patriots last week, but it was not Manning who won it. For one, the awful roughing the passer call helped the Colts gain a much needed 15 yards and secondly, Tom Brady would have won that game if he had more time, every Pats fan knows that right? For the few Manning fans out there, no I am not a Pats fan, I just enjoy watching good old Peyton sweat bullets and look lost on the field when it comes down to the fourth quarter with the game on the line. But do not take my word for it, here are some of the statistics to show why Peyton Manning will most likely choke come Super Bowl Sunday:

1. A measly 6-6 in the playoffs

2. 2-3 away from his heartland in Indianapolis

3. 4 games under a 75 quarterback rating in the playoffs

4. He has only won one big game in his career (last week)

It is ridiculous to hear all the writers and analysts say that Manning has finally won the big game. He has not! He beat a banged up and old defense two weeks ago and he barely got out of that one. The Bears defense is just as good as the Raven's defense who did not allow Manning into the end zone. Now if Rex Grossman, who has only one interception to Manning's five, can hold his own, the Bears will win this one.

One more thing, remember when Manning injured his thumb against the Pats? That injury has been kept under wraps by Manning and the entire Colts organization. When push comes to shove, Manning is not the toughest guy around and with his ability to make great excuses the injury should be brought up Monday after they lose to the Bears.

     Jay’s Pick: Bears          Scott: Colts
     Joe: Colts                     Bob: Colts

Current Standings:

1) Jay and Scott  at 4-1

2) Joe and Bob at 3-2
