Reel Big Fish takes a tour

Reel Big Fish, a band that is made up of six Orange County High School dorks, is due for a tour.  Reel Big Fish is scheduled to play on February 8, 2007 at The Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, Florida and on February 9, 2007 at Michigan State University in Houghton, Michigan.

A little over a decade ago ska-punk band Reel Big Fish was signed with Universal/Mojo Records (which is now called Jive Records). Reel Big Fish is better known for their 1997 song "Trendy" that came from their second and most successful album Turn the Radio off. "Trendy" became the theme song for the World Champion Florida Marlins in 1997.

Another highlight in Reel Big Fish’s career is when they were dropped from their label in 2006. Reel Big Fish (R.B.F.) has been begging band management to be dropped from their label after their album Cheer Up was released in early 2006. R.B.F. felt as if they didn’t fit into their label because unlike themselves pop groups were also signed with Universal/Mojo. R.B.F. heard the news when they were on tour in Salt Lake City Utah. "That was the most excited the band has been in ten years," recalls vocalist/guitarist Aaron Barrett. "I've never seen the guys smile that big!"

The first project that R.B.F. participated in after their liberation from Universal/ Mojo was a live double CD and DVD set (that features 20 songs filmed in Fullerton, California), titled Our Live Album is Better Than Your Live Album. The band made licensing deals with Rykodisc/CD Baby and digital distribution through Rock Ridge. "Basically the live album is just an excuse to re-record everything, that's where we've always felt most comfortable. When we're on stage, we just feel better about playing," said Barrett "Jive still owns all our other albums so this is our way of taking our music back!" Their album was released August 1, 2006.

Reel Big Fish carries a much larger workload because they are not signed with a record label. They get more satisfaction by knowing everything is done by themselves. This leads to having to do all planning by themselves, including scheduling their upcoming tours. Reel Big Fish currently  have two tour dates that are scheduled for the next two weeks, but we will see where they are headed next!
