Scholarship applications due in March by Ashley Roberts Exchange Writer Student financial services at Franklin Pierce are urging students to fill out the general scholarship application by March 1st 2007. Students can receive scholarships and grants ranging from $500 to $4,000 every year, however not many are taking advantage of this opportunity. Freshmen usually make up the bulk of the applicants, after that the student body loses interest. The number of scholarship applications has decreased significantly. Kenneth Ferreiria, the executive director of student financial services, said, "Not many students apply, we want more." Continuing students are eligible for the various awards only after they fill out the 2007-2008 FAFSA forms. Freshmen Justin S. feels scholarship applications can be an intimidating entity. "Most kids feel like they're within a common percentage when scholarships are looking for things spectacular, they think that they don't have a chance." According to financial services, this is not true; there is a list of scholarships available on the campus website including the general scholarship application which is the only form one needs to fill out. Continuing students would have the greatest chance at attaining these awards if more of them applied. There are plenty of different scholarships based on grades and merit available to students, say the staff. The form needs to be filled out by March 1st in order for financial aide to choose who shall receive the awards. Financial services have been sending out emails and letters in students mailboxes to remind them of the up coming deadline. You can find the details about FAFSA as well as the forms at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. |
