Pierce Bookstore will get a facelift this May by Jerry Davydov Exchange Writer Construction on a new and improved Franklin Pierce Bookstore is scheduled to begin in May. Bookstore manager Kristine Nolan is looking forward to a larger space for business. "We are looking to expand the text and clothing area extensively, as well as creating a backroom for shipping and receiving," said Nolan. "As of now all shipping and receiving is done right on the Bookstore floor. With a larger space for shipping and receiving the Franklin Pierce Bookstore would be more organized." As well as the expansion Nolan also hopes to create a second entrance from inside Pierce Hall so that students could walk from inside the Cafeteria or Pierce Hall instead of trekking outside to get to the store. Freshman Emily Patrick said, "That's great! With an entrance from the inside I don’t have to run from the Cafeteria upstairs to get my mail and then back outside, in the freezing cold, to get some Starbucks. Now I could take off my jacket and do all my errands from the comfort of indoors." Measurements for the new floor plan were taken on January 30th. As soon as the preliminary floor plan is drawn up contractors from the local community will begin bidding on the project. "The decision of what contractor we use is up to the school," said Nolan. "We do not know as of yet whom the project will go to, but the school does like to use West Rindge Builders." West Rindge Builders is a construction company that has completed work for Franklin Pierce on the brand new Pierce Hall, as well as the extensive work on the cafeteria floor. "Their work is satisfactory, and they are easy to work with and follow through very well," said Nolan. When the school chooses a company a survey will be taken to see how much space is available for clothes, texts, gifts, and the other parts of the Bookstore.
