Bonds faces another obstacle in the coming season

Barry Bonds has yet another challenge facing him this upcoming season. In an interview at KGO Radio in San Francisco, Bonds said on the air that he has received death threats but would not comment on them in the 90 minute interview he had. He has been closely guarded by a Major League baseball security guard official throughout spring training for the second year. He is scheduled to start his training in Scottsdale against the Milwaukee Brewers. He currently sits on 734 home runs and is only 22 away from passing Hank Aaron who is the all time leader with 755.

Now watching Barry and his playing career, he has had his moments. The death threats that he's been receiving are silly in my opinion. Yes the guy did admit to using steroids and he did have an unfair advantage in the game which I dislike him for but I do not see any point in the threats. The fact is the guy is going to play another year of baseball. That is the decision that he made. I've never been a big fan of the guy, especially when he was mentioned to use illegal drugs which he says he "unknowingly" used.

When Hank Aaron was nearing the all time home run mark, he had his own personal challenges because of his race. Like Bonds he had to deal with death threats and hate mail from baseball fans. He would eventually pass Babe Ruth on April 8, 1974 despite all of that. I see Barry passing Aaron (unfortunately) during the 2007 season. Because Barry is determined to break one of the biggest milestones in baseball. The only things to wonder are when, where and what will happen when he passes Aaron. It is going to feel uncomfortable, but death threats are pointless. They are wrong to do to anyone, no matter what. As far as Barry Bonds and his chase of the all time home run record, there is nothing anyone can do but watch.
