Community Service Seniors will receive Cords of Recognition

Seniors who participated in community service events in seven out of their eight semesters are asked to contact the community service office so they can receive cords of recognition.

Marabeth Farmer, the Assistant Director of Community service, is asking seniors to submit a list of community service activities they participated in. A grade point average of 2.50 is needed in order to earn a cord of recognition.

"The reason why we set the grade point average at 2.50 is because sometimes it is the average students in the classroom who make the most meaningful contributions to the community," Farmer said.

Farmer also stated that seniors who participated in community service events in seven out of eight semesters and earned a 3.0 GPA or higher will receive a special award along with their cords of recognition.

"Many of our students have found the time to excel in the classroom and make a difference in the community, which takes great time management and commitment," said Farmer.

The seniors' commitment to the community has also provided a positive influence for underclassmen.

"Their work has not gone unnoticed and it will be great to see them rewarded for their hard work," said underclassman Alex Marinelli, who participated in community service events this year and plans to contribute in the future as well.
