The Fitzwater Center Honors took place on Friday April 13 at the Franklin Pierce Manchester campus with Steve Scully, Political Editor for C-SPAN, receiving the award for Leadership in Public Communication.

The event takes place every year and this year two seniors were honored for their work in Mass Communications.  Senior Trent Spiner was awarded a Fitzwater Medallion for his contributions to public discourse.  Senior Matthew Leite was also awarded for his contributions to public discourse.  Scully was the honorary recipient for the 2007 ceremonies.

Graduate assistant Frank Blais helped organize the honors ceremony.  He said, “The Fitzwater Honors comes at the time of year when the campus recognized individuals for leadership and talent.  During this time we can appreciate work that everyone has done and be able to look back on our accomplishments.”  Blais was also the first student at FPC to receive an award for contributions to public discourse.

Spiner said, “This year we brought many new exciting technologies to the Pierce Media Group (PMG).  I am honored to receive this, but would also like to thank everyone in the group for their hard work as well.”  A large accomplishment of the PMG this year was the website for the Pierce Arrow, he said.  The website has web updates and daily pod casts.

The Fitzwater Center focuses on the progression of public discourse and has expanded technologically over the past years.  Other staff members and faculty from the Rindge Campus were also present at the Honors event as well as Kristen Nevious, Director of the Fitzwater Center.
