First Annual Fitzies Award Ceremony

On April 30, students in the Mass Communications Department will be able to attend the first annual Fitzies award ceremony.

The Fitzies were created by students to give members of the Pierce Media Group (PMG) a chance to acknowledge their peers for their hard work and dedication. Unlike the renowned Fitzwater Honors, The Fitzies are expected to be more laid back and are also intended to focus more on the students.

Erika McGowan, who has been dedicated to this project from the start, said, "We've done awards in the past with the TV station, but this year we wanted to include everyone who is involved with the Fitzwater center."

Any student involved with the Pierce Arrow, FPC-TV, or the radio station is eligible to receive an award. Each award will be chosen by the head of the executive board of each department. The producer of the awards ceremony, Natalya Waye said, "There are two big categories, Leadership and Contribution. Each branch of the PMG will nominate one student for this award. Then the four other awards are Communication, Creativity, Professionalism, and Performance."

The ceremony will be held in Pierce Hall beginning with a red carpet at 6:00 p.m. followed by hors d’oeuvres and the award ceremony, which will be hosted by Brittany Bonesteel and Rob Frankel. The producers of this event plan to showcase the work of students who have shown “tremendous leadership” during the ceremony, as well as possible interviews with executive board members.

This event has been in the works since the beginning of the semester. It was planned and organized by students alone. Since this is the first year that this event is taking place there are only so many things that the producers could do. They plan on having more specific and specialized awards next year, in hopes that it will encourage students to work even harder.

"We are all hoping that the student body is really excited about this show," said Waye. This event will be free of charge and is open to the entire campus. Formal wear will be mandatory but students are encouraged to have fun with it and relax during the event. For more information contact Natalya Waye at WayeN@franklinpierce.edu
