Players are lost and found during the playoffs

It's October and once again I am reminded why sports have not only become a large part of my life, but pretty much the whole thing.  All year long you wait for the playoffs, well that is if you live in Boston where most of their franchises actually make the playoffs.  Days and hours are put aside to sit on a couch and watch the greatest reality television show ever created.

No scripts and no actors, just players and a game.  Hours of tears, frustrations, joy, sadness etc. are felt during your team's course of a title run.  Fan favorites like Reche Caldewell can easily become that off-seasons enemy with a couple of missed catches.  Others like David Oritz become gods in the eyes of many and are written about in history books.  After Game 1 of the ALDS, Josh Beckett is now being known as the best pitcher in baseball even though a week ago people were arguing if he is the Cy Young or not.  It's funny how one day in October can be that much greater than 162 days during the season.  That 162 equals zero in October and that one in October equals infinite, try explaining that one to your math professor.

Alex Rodriguez has had one of the greatest statistical seasons of all-time, but guess what that means nothing what so ever.  If his postseason slump continues than it will all be a waste and the
t-shirt outside Fenway Park will read true: "A-Rod; Mr. April . . . Miss October."  It's not only in baseball that this is relevant, but in any sport.  Until last year Peyton Manning was a great quarterback who couldn't win in January.  Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen are all considered great players and all-starts, but none of them have made it to even a championship series, let alone win one.  The playoffs are the only thing that matters in sports I don't care what anyone says.  Sports are about winning championships not about leading the league in something.

I have waited since last April for this October and when it's over I will be waiting for January for the football playoffs and after that it will be May I am excited for when the NBA takes their turn.  It is a never ending cycle that is the greatest three months of the year, months that will affect my life forever.  I know that my wedding will never be in October due to fear of missing the Red Sox or on any Sunday from September – January, well because the Pats are on.  My life is sports, but more importantly the playoffs are my life, no excuses!  This coming from the kid who wore headphones on a soccer field senior year of high school during a game because the Sox were playing in the ALDS.  So all of you out there, sit back, relax and enjoyed one of the greatest months of the year where Average Joe's become remembered and great players become forgotten.
