Out of an original seven companies, the school has narrowed its choices down to three, including its current provider, Global Crossing. Franklin Pierce hoped to have everything finalized and installed for the fall semester of 2007, but was unable to do so. "However, the school is very close to making a decision and closing the deal," said the System Administrator Marion Stone. Global Crossing currently provides the school with internet through seven T-1 lines that travel wirelessly through the roof of the library. If the school chooses to go with the new DS3 system, it will be hard wired through the basement of the library. The DS3 system provides 28 T-1 lines which would provide faster internet. "Once this new service is installed the internet speed will be about double of what it is now," said Stone. "The internet here can be frustrating at times," said sophomore Mike Cielsa. "If we do get faster service, I'm sure the whole school will benefit." The main reason for all of the struggles through this process is location. Rindge, being far for any large town, is connected to the World Wide Web through dial up. Like Franklin Pierce though, Rindge has also been trying to get faster internet to its residents. "The efforts of Franklin Pierce and Rindge however are not connected, but may end up benefiting each other in the end," said Stone. For more information on this topic get in
