Four DVD's you may want to get your hands on by Casey Bolduc Exchange Staff Believe it or not the holiday season is almost upon us, and yes that means family, food and best of all gifts. You may be buying gifts for your friends and family or coming up with something to tell your mother when she asks you what you want for Christmas. Either way here is a starting point for your holiday shopping, and if you think it's to early to start, just think about the mall you spent Christmas Eve in last year... Mr. Brooks is a psychological thriller starring Kevin Costner and Demi Moore in which Costner's character, Mr. Earl Brooks leads a secret life of murder influenced by the voices within his own mind. Just when he decides to 'retire' from his hobby, serial crime detective Tracy Atwood, played by Moore picks up his scent and pursues an investigation. They wasted no time getting this to DVD and its worth the purchase, taking into account positive reviews from Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and the New York Times, if you're into that sort of thing. If you ever watched the cartoon when you were younger, or even if you didn't; director Michael Bay's Transformers, starring Shia Labeouf is definitely something to get a hold of. In the film he plays a familiar role, one that may remind you of the mischievous role he played in Disturbia. He stumbles upon a yellow Camaro which just happens to be an Autobot, and so he continues his journey to save the world from the enemy robot forces. Yes it sounds a little out there, but the special effects are amazing. Not only that, but if you are a fan of the original, you may recognize some of the robots voices throughout the film. If it's not your cup of tea, I'm sure there are some younger brothers and sisters out there that would appreciate it. For the music lover in your family, and for myself if you were wondering Eric Clapton is releasing the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD on November 20th. Last years DVD was a delight featuring the best guitar players in blues and rock and roll, and this year is no different. After an introduction by Bill Murray, Clapton joins the likes of Vince Gil, John Mayer, B.B. King, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Beck and Willie Nelson (to name a few) on stage at the Crossroads Centre in Antigua to raise money towards rehabilitation. The center was created in 1997 to aid those with drug and alcohol dependencies and other addictive behaviors and also runs a halfway house. Since we are talking about the holidays, take this opportunity to contribute to a good cause while checking off one person on your list. Call it a coincidence but while Stephen Colbert is making move towards the White House the 'best of' DVD collection of his show The Stephen Colbert Report. Maybe an attempt at stirring up some more attention to his name, this collection features all of his most interesting pieces including "Better Know a District" in which he showcases a new district in our country so that viewers can, well, better know your country. Other up coming releases include the latest
seasons of Scrubs, C.S.I and Lost which will all be available in the next
month. Another installment of the Santa Clause movies called "The Exit
Clause" will be available for the holidays, along with Bruce Willis' latest
Die Hard film called "Live Free or Die Hard." |
