Former Community Assistant for Granite, Wade Rodgers, lost his job because he failed to take action Monday, October 1st, when freshman Cody Charest was wrapped in duct tape and brought out into the hallway while intoxicated.

The event happened on October 1st around midnight.  It took place on the first floor of the Granite dorms.

While under the influence of alcohol, Charest was taped up with duct tape. His friends then picked him up and put him in the hallway, which was where Rogers had witnessed the incident. "I just think it's ridiculous that they (Residential Life) have taken it this far," said Charest.

There were two other CA's that accompanied Wade at the scene. "I think it's unfair that I got fired and the two other CA's that were with me only got slightly punished," Wade said.

Ken Ervin, Director of Residential Life, confirmed that Wade is no longer working for the Department of Residential Life, but he was not able to say why Rodgers was fired or what had happened.

Charest said, "Someone held me down and my roommate wrapped me in duct tape. Wade was just there and didn't stop it and that's why he got fired."

CA's are student leaders, and one of their jobs is to maintain the community's rules and keep the environment in their region safe. Ervin said that CA's are expected to be student leaders.  "They should be role modeling the university's policies (and are) expected to live within university policies," he said.
