NB: What do you teach at FP? JQ: I teach painting, drawing, 2 Dimensional Design, Experience the Arts, Senior Capstone called "Preparation of the Art Professional." NB: How long have you been teaching here? JQ: This is my second year. NB: What are your hobbies? JQ: Painting. I do a lot of painting. I've been weight training for the last fifteen years, trying to stay young--defeating gravity. I also do small scale farming at home in Western New York. NB: What makes you interesting? JQ: My family lives outside of Rochester, NY. I commute home every two weeks, leaving on Thursday to get back to Pierce on Sunday. We have a five acre farm where we grow garlic, raspberries, and asparagus. NB: What is your educational background? JQ: I got my Fine Arts Degree at Oxford, England. Which is MFA equivalent or Honors BFA/MA at the Ruskin School of Drawing. I was in England for three years. Then I got my Masters of Science in Education at Nazareth College in Rochester. NB: Where have you taught? JQ: I taught as an Adjunct Professor and Visiting Professor at Nazareth. I also taught seventh and eight grades in Public School for two years. NB: What did you do after college? JQ: I played in a Rock n' roll Band called "Interlake." I did that for three to four years; played the local music scene in Rochester, NY. I took courses in Canada on film animation for two summers. NB: Do you have any advice to the class of '08? JQ: Find your passion and follow it through. NB: What should the student body know about you? JQ: My passion is painting and also teaching. I
thrive on it. I think students respond to my teaching. I make it a point of
meeting my students right were they are and take them were they want to go.
It's a gift. It's wonderful. |
