This week I interviewed Ben Reynolds.  Reynolds is from Wallingford Pennsylvania and came to New Hampshire to continue his career with hockey.  He sat down with me to talk about his studies, the activities he has participated in, his future aspirations and his favorite memories.

Q) What drew you to Franklin Pierce?

A) I was offered some scholarship money and a chance to play division 2 hockey. When I saw the campus I thought it had a really nice atmosphere and a good education program.

Q) What is your field of study?

A) I am going for a certificate in early education and a self designed major in math.

Q) What made you decide to choose that field of study?

A) I became interested in the field of education through a high school teacher I once had. Math has always been in my family and has been my favorite subject growing up.

Q) What aspect of your field have you enjoyed the most?

A) For both education and math I have enjoyed working with the professors that I have had. For education I would say working with the students in the classroom. For math I would say linear algebra and Professor Brezovec's humor.

Q) Are you looking forward to student teaching?  What does student teaching entail?

A) I have met both my host teachers and students for student teaching and I think it's going to be a rewarding experience. Student teaching consists of the same process a normal teacher would go through while working with the host teacher. I hope that student teaching will help better prepare me for my future as a teacher.

Q) Has any particular teacher inspired you or given you extra help over the years?

A) Both my advisors, Professor Mosley and Professor Brezovec, have inspired me and given me extra help in their directed fields. I have had many other teachers who have helped me through the course of my four years here.

Q) What activities and clubs are you involved in on campus?

A) I play two sports: ice hockey and tennis.

Q) How long have you been playing hockey? what is some of your experience with hockey outside of Franklin Pierce?  And will you continue to play after you graduate?

A) I have been playing hockey for about eleven years now. Prior to coming to Franklin Pierce I played for the Green Mountain Glades in Burlington, Vermont and the Thunder Bay North Stars in Northern Ontario, Canada. After I graduate I most likely will not play competitively, but I will try to stay apart of hockey and coach wherever I end up teaching.

Q) What is your best memory with the Ravens hockey team?

A) My favorite memory with the Ravens hockey team was receiving the NE-10 and ECAC all- academic award.

Q) How long have you played tennis?

A) I played for my high school for two years and have been playing here for the past two years.

Q) What are your future goals/aspirations for post-graduation?

A) After graduation I plan on finding a good teaching position with the possibility of a coaching job.

Q) Any idea of what grade you want to teach?

A) The grades I am looking to teach are 2nd or 4th grade depending on what is offered.

Q) Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A) I hope to see myself settled down with a steady job, a family and still be involved with hockey.

Q) What were the most rewarding memories you have made here?

A) The most rewarding memories have been the people I have met. I have met many friends I hope to stay in contact with.

Q) What advice do you have, if any, to the underclassmen?

A) Whatever goals you make you will be able to achieve them if you set your mind to it.

Q) Any farewell words you want to say to your graduating class?

A) Good luck and best wishes on wherever you end up.
