For the first time during the upcoming spring break, Franklin Pierce University will send 14 students to Quebec for an adventure ski trip.

Doug Carty, the director of campus recreation, said, "Canada brings a different element to a trip, and it will be culturally interesting." Campus recreation wants all their trips to be culturally interesting, not just a trip said Carty.

Although Carty will not be attending the adventure ski trip to Canada, he will send students Kristen Bean and Tom Merkt as the trip leaders as well as Campus Safety Officer Bill Valente, who has skiing experience in Canada.  "I am very excited to be skiing at Mont. Tremblant, I expect we will be skiing in some great conditions for early spring skiing, as we head north for Spring break," said Bean.

Carty also mentioned that back in 2003; Franklin Pierce attempted to send students to Austria to see a new part of the world. Unfortunately, due to lack of interest the trip fell through. According to Carty, the Franklin Pierce University campus recreation department is in early talks for a trip to South Africa in the future.

The students going on the trip will have to pay a total of $550. This cost covers the hotel, transportation, lift ticket for each day, breakfast each morning, and dinner each evening. Lunch is the only meal that isn't covered in the trip.

The students will be skiing and snowboarding down Mont Tremblant, which has over 630 acres of ski able ground and the summit of the mountain stands at 2871 feet. The mountain opened in 1939 and in 2005 was recognized as the number one best ski resort by Ski Magazine. The resort it only minutes away from downtown where students can enjoy many restaurants, shops and night life at a venue of places.

"Franklin Pierce's campus recreation is always looking for new ideas and feedback," said Carty. For any questions or feedback email recreation@franklinpierce.edu or call campus recreation at 1-603-899-4382.
