Franklin Pierce Freshman to release homemade CD
by Frank Martino
Exchange Staff
Freshman Benjamin Fogel completed his first demo CD under the alias
"Crooked Surgeon,"
featuring seven tracks of self proclaimed, "futuristic electronica" which he
plans to release to the Franklin Pierce community.
The Albany, New
York resident recorded and edited all seven songs using Apple's basic Garage
Band software. The tracks feature guitar solos, raps, synthesizers and drum
beats all created by Fogel in his Granite dorm room. His biggest influence
is DJ Bassnectar because of his "intricate blend of syncopated bass and
drum rhythms combined with genius time manipulation."
"It's a
unique clash of genres," said music professor Lou Bunk. "It carries techno
rhythm with rap synths."
The CD features three songs with original lyrics
while the other tracks range from all instrumental to remixed rap/techno.
Fellow musician Harrison Brooks finds Fogel's ambition and
talent impressive. "It takes time to perfect your music," said Brooks.
"I am proud of Ben for his hard work and determination."
Fogel will
send his transfer application along with the demo to Northeastern
University, Manhattanville College, Berklee School of Music and Boston
University. He hopes his demo will not only jumpstart his transfer process
but hopefully his career.
"It feels good to be done after six months of
nail-biting work, progressing inch by inch," said Fogel. "Now I have a solid
collection of tracks that I feel comfortable with people listening to. I
want to get my music out to the Franklin Pierce community, I'm hoping to
gain some playtime and some feedback."
CDs will be given by sending a request to
fogelb@franklinpierce.edu.
