Profs into people, an interview with Ronald Drogy by Patricia Donahue Exchange Staff PD: What is your title here at Franklin Pierce? RD: I am an Adjunct writing instructor/lecturer PD: How long have you been a part of the Franklin Pierce community? RD: I have been at the college for about two years now. PD: What classes do you mainly teach at the college? RD: I teach College Writing I and II. I am also the Director/ Co-Coordinator of the Peter C. Wensberg Writing Center, and I supervise the directed study of two international students. PD: Where did you attend college? RD: I attended Bucknell University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. I also attended Fitchburg State College where I earned my Master of Arts degree in English. PD: What were your goals, and ambitions when graduating college? RD: When graduating college my original goal was to become a geologist. PD: Where is your hometown/ where you grew up? RD: I grew up in Syosset, Long Island, NY. I now live in Peterborough, NH where I have been since 1978. PD: What did you study in college? RD: Other than the courses I took for geology, I also studied primary education at Framingham State College and after that I taught in the Conval District for 21 years, mainly in elementary and middle school. PD: Have you always been interested in higher education? RD: I only became interested in teaching in higher education after earning my MA in English five years ago. PD: What do you like to do, outside of Franklin Pierce? RD: Outside of work, my main interest is doing fun and exciting things with my family: I have a wife, Nancy, and kids Todd--34; Tyler 28; and Allison 19. I am a sports nut. I love to play basketball, soccer, hike, kayak, bike, lift weights, and run, etc. I also love to work on my house and read a lot. PD: What is your favorite travel spot? RD: My favorite travel spots would have to be Martha's Vineyard, the White Mountains, and the New Hampshire Seacoast. PD: What if any kinds of advice do you have for the graduating class of 2008?
RD:
My advice to the class of
2008 is to be informed about US politics so you can cast intelligent votes
and participate in our threatened democracy. Also, do things in moderation
for the most part, but pick something where you will really "go for it." Be
kind to people but stick up for yourself and your friends and family. Vote
in the coming election. Live healthy and treat the earth with love and
respect. Read. Write. Travel. Learn to cook. Amen. |
