A solution to our nation's economic crisis has come to us in the form of a "cash back" approach. President Bush has proposed a bill that would give Americans anywhere from $300 to $1800 cash, in an attempt to encourage people to buy products in America.

This "stimulus" is no more than an attempt to save our president's legacy from being completely tarnished. Our so-called most "powerful" nation continues to propel a $1.49 billion deficit each day, creating increased debt and job loss throughout the nation.

The mortgage crisis has put a lot of families into a bind and has made them unable to afford their originally low-interest loans. So what exactly do you think the average American is going to spend this rebate on?

The housing crisis along with these proposed fixes are no more than a farce. The continuing class gap can no longer be ignored. This rebate will only be effective among people who are debt free and can afford to re-circulate this money back into the economy by spending it on material items. What the politicians fail to see is that the majority of these "rebates" are going to be spent on paying back the plethora of debt people have accumulated in this economy that’s on the brink of recession.

President Bush said the tax rebates will "be an effective robust and temporary set of incentives." This stimulus will no more than increase inflation and will continue to decrease the value of the American dollar. It will also throw us further into debt with China, the country that we industrialized and outsourced our American industry to.

This is another move by a government that has done nothing more than hurt the American economy and its way of life. Jobs are paying the same salaries while taxes and expenses are going up. People can't afford to live in the country that once thrived on its proud industry and morals. To get out of this debt we must cut our losses and reinstate the manufacturing jobs that made this country strong. We must end the war in Iraq and cut our military budgets while diverting our foreign aid to help end poverty in our own country. If we achieve these goals maybe then can we call this nation prosperous. The 2008 elections need to result in change or we will fall like countless "empires" before us.
