Chris Cauley and Chinua Hawk, "two of the top
musical acts of the college circuit" will perform this spring in Pierce Hall
on April 23 at 8pm.
"Their music is described as southern soul meets
acoustic soul," said Vice President of Students in Free Enterprise,
Christine Richmond. Richmond was the actual chairperson who decided to put
on the event. She had seen the two perform at a conference in Hartford and
knew "they were a group I would love to have on campus."
"They will sing some songs
separately and some together," said Assistant Director of Student
Activities, Leah Robichaud. "The two men tour separately, but call
themselves the 'Chris Cauley and Chinua Hawk Project,' when together."
Chinua Hawk is a singer,
songwriter, and entrepreneur. His CDs have not only sold in the United
States, but have also got recognition in France, England, Switzerland,
Japan, and Canada. Chinua has performed with Celine Dionne at Madison Square
Garden in front of a crowd of 30,000. He has written songs with Wyclef Jean
and worked in the studio with rapper Kanye West. Chinua was also named the
APCA Multi-Cultural Artist of the year 2004 and again in 2005.
Chris Cauley is a 22 year old
singer and songwriter. In his first year on the college circuit, Chris was
the number one music act of all three showcases and was selected and voted
APCA Coffeehouse Artist of the Year. Chris has opened for many world touring
acts such as Edwin McCain, Will Hoge, and Motor City Josh and The Big 3.
"They are really good. Students should definitely come
out and see them," said Robichaud. "You never know who we are going to have
on campus. You never know where they will end up in their career. They could
make it big."
Students who have already been informed about the event
plan on taking advantage of this opportunity. "It will be good to have this
new group on campus," said senior Angelica Benjamin. "It will be a new
experience for us, to be able to go out and take advantage of this new band,
and this new style of music."
