New Station Manager feels confident about next year

by Phil Enright

Newly elected FP TV Station Manager Erika McGowan seeks to build upon the extracurricular program in the television station through fundraising and new ideas.

McGowan is very excited about her role next year.  "I'm trying to continue what past station managers have put into place and build upon it," McGowan said.

Everyone on campus can get involved in the television station, even if they are not Mass Communication majors.  Pulling in more students is on her list of things to do, along with focusing more on the quality of the shows airs rather than the quantity.  She also plans to strengthen and increase the sports department.

Fundraising is an additional phase that McGowan feels is very important.  Ideas for different sets and more visually appealing backdrops are examples of what the funding could go towards.  McGowan said, "There is a lot that the school hasn’t seen that we should do."

Many of the applicants for station manager are involved heavily in the station already when it comes time to choose the next year's manager, so it becomes difficult to choose who would be best for the job.  When choosing the manager, the staff looks at whether the person can be a good role model and leader for the executive board and the television station, and if they are well organized, just to name a few of the criteria.

The station manager also works closely with FP TV Advisor Professor Heather Tullio through email and the weekly meetings.   "I am constantly impressed with the time, effort and energy that the executive board puts into the television station," said Tullio.

The previous station manager, Derek Gorman, said that the television station had a really successful year, and that he is looking forward to watching the station grow.  "I plan on being there solely as guidance for the new station manager…and for the PMG," Gorman said.

The hiring process for the rest of the unfilled executive board positions will take place in the next few weeks.  If anyone is interested, contact Erika McGowan, Derek Gorman or Professor Tullio for more information.
