Profs into people, an interview with Doug Carty by Patricia Donahue Exchange Staff PD: Where is your hometown/ where did you grow up? DC: I was a Navy Brat so I moved every two years until the fifth grade. After that I grew up in Meredith, NH. PD: Where did you attend college? DC: Well, I started off at Arizona State University, but also attended Mesa Community College and Garrett College where I earned my Associate Degree before finally getting my Bachelor's from Franklin Pierce. PD: What were your goals and ambitions after
graduating college? PD: What is your title here at Franklin Pierce
and how many years have you bee teaching here? PD: What classes do you mainly teach? PD: What do you enjoy doing outside of teaching
at Franklin Pierce? PD: What would you say is your favorite travel spot? DC: Hmmm - I lived in Italy for two years growing up, returned to Italy this last year and would love to take my family there. So I would have to say Italy! PD: When growing up did you have any role models or heroes? DC: My father was in the Navy for 20 years - in my early years I truly wanted to follow in his footsteps. During my high school career, I had some really good relationships with my teachers, and I really looked up to some of them. PD: What advice do you have for the graduating class of 2008? DC: Be prepared for some failure along the way and be very adaptable. Life has a funny way of redirecting you into your true calling. PD: If you could trade places with any one person in the world who would it be and why? DC: One person…I think it would be challenging to do what Bear Grylls (Man vs. Wild) has done (without the scandal). You get some true perspective on life when the wrong choices could end it. PD: What quote do you live your life by? DC: I am the Lizard King; I can do anything (The
Doors, Not to Touch the Earth) |
