FF:  Where are you from?

JY:  Norwich VT

FF:  What is your major?

JY:  Criminal Justice

FF What made you chose to attend Franklin Pierce?

JY:  I liked the rural atmosphere, and being relatively close to home.  I also attended a small high school and figured I would like the small college environment..

FF:  What is your rank in the Marines?

JY:  I am a Corporal.

FF:  How long were you in Iraq and how was it different from being at Franklin Pierce?

JY:   I was in Iraq for seven months, which was 2 weeks in the  beginning and end for transport to and from the combat area and six months of running patrols in Iraq.  It was different in every sense of the word.  I certainly sleep a lot more than I did when I was in Iraq. I worked on an average week between 70-80 hours,  leaving me fairly well exhausted.  The part I want to stress is that I absolutely loved my job over seas, even though when I talk about it, it would have you believe that I was complaining about how hard I had it.  It was definitely a tough job, but I was surrounded by people with all of the same interests as my self and were able to bring the work they did in the civilian world along with them to benefit the company and the marines at an individual level.  I was also able to put everything I had and then some into my deployment, because the alternative of a mistake over seas and here would have completely different results.

FF:  What did you do in your free time in Iraq?

JY:  Free time?  Due to the job stresses (physical, and mental), you you were constantly tired.  So free time became a matter of what you made time for.  I read a lot when I had down time that wouldn't be long enough to sleep.  I also lifted weights and wrote letters home as often as possible.

FF What do you like to do for fun when you are at home?

JY:  I like living in rural Norwich Vermont. So I get to enjoy being in the woods, catching up with friends from high school, weight lifting, and doing a fair amount of back country type stuff, jeeping (with someone else's vehicle) and having bon fires.

FF What would you like to do after college?

JY:   My goal is to get a job on the Vermont state police, also I have a painting company that I'm looking to expand, as a good well paying job market for people who don't feel getting a degree is on their career path.

FF What one person would you like to meet in the world? (dead or alive)

JY:  Definitely Toby Keith.  I had a chance to see him while I was in Iraq, but I gave up the opportunity, because I wasn't going to be able to go with the guys from my platoon it was just going to be me leaving them to go meet him.  So I let someone else go in my place.

FF If there was one thing you would want someone to know one thing about you, what would it be?

JY:  No matter what the current situation is things can always get worse and to be as self reliant as possible, because your friends, family and professors can help you out a lot, but in the end they can't do things for you.
