Behind the scenes with Audra Clark

by Audra Clark
Exchange Staff

This was the first in-depth piece I've ever written and while it was a little intimidating it was also very exiting. I wrote about illegal Adderall abuse and I had to go places I'm not used to going in journalism I interviewed a psychiatrist off campus, researched studies on the subject and even interviewed two Adderall abusers who had to have their names changed to protect themselves.

I was actually very concerned about using my sources because with everything that's going on today with journalist going to jail and being fined absurd amounts of money for protecting their sources. I didn't think I could count on the school to pay my legal fees so I asked Professor Bush, the Exchange's 'publisher' what I should do to protect myself.

Originally I wanted to burn my notes but he said that if I burned my notes for this article when I saved my notes from all the others I could get in trouble for trying to cover up information.

Bush said that if anyone really came knocking at my door looking for my notes that I should call an organization that helps defend civil liberties.
