Behind the Scenes with Alyssa Dandrea

Writing my article on this year's initiatives taken by the Capital Improvements Committee was challenging in a lot of ways.  First of all, I had never heard of the committee, therefore my first step was to speak with Kim Ruth, the committee's chair.  She told me that the committee's responsibility was to find capital issues on campus and then design projects to correct those problems.  Kim also told me about the committee's concerns with lighting on campus, and described the current condition of the path between Sawmills and Lakeview as impassable in bad weather.  Not being familiar with that area of campus it took some time for me to realize how much of a safety concern the current path is.

By talking to other students on campus, I realized that so many of them were unaware that projects like this were taking place.  For this reason, I became more determined to talk to administrators and other individuals involved in an effort to get multiple opinions of the project and to make my article stronger.

Throughout the interview process, I spoke with more people than I had for any previous J1 article.  This was a great challenge for me to undertake, and I feel that in the long run it gave my final story more depth and insight.

I hope that by writing this article Franklin Pierce students will take more time to learn about the ways in which our student government is helping the campus.
