Frankie P Fridays brings good clean fun to Friday nights

Derek Scalia, the new Assistant Director of Student Involvement, has plans for getting more students interested in campus activities, including one called "Frankie P Fridays."

Frankie P Fridays are going to be held every Friday in the Emily Flint Campus Center between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m. Every second weekend there will be a themed dinner in the cafeteria to coincide.

"I wish to engage with the student body as well as the larger community in a dynamic manner that brings people together through fun and engaging activities/experiences," said Scalia, who joined the Franklin Pierce crew this past July.

Students should be very excited about the changes going on in the Campus Center, according to Scalia. The installment of a Ticket Window in the Information Desk will enable students to learn more about what is going on, while students working in the information desk can promote new and upcoming events.

"These changes were made to better serve the students and their experience at Franklin Pierce," said Scalia.

The first Frankie P Friday, held on September 12th, was a School Spirit Night that included buffet style dining, as well as an appearance from Rocky the Raven, Franklin Pierce’s mascot.

"If Frankie P Fridays keep up the good work, I'll be back," said sophomore Steve Yuen. "The food was out of this world and Rocky rocked the house."

"Students were surprised and pleased to see Rocky and it created a fun and different environment for them," said Kim Knox, the general manager for Sodexo Food services on campus. "I sit with Derek Scalia and Scott Ansevin-Allen each year and we try and plan some fun events for students that also include dining. The comments I heard were very positive."

"I think Frankie P Fridays are a good idea, but I think students would be more interested if the cafeteria was involved every time," said sophomore Katie Simpson.

September 19th will mark the second Frankie P Friday, which will include airbrushed tattoos in the Glass Foyer of the Campus Center.

Upcoming Frankie P Fridays that are in the works include psychics, caricatures, photos, as well as Vegas and Luau themed nights.
