Women's Rugby ready to ruck

With most of the fall sports already under way, the women's rugby team will start their regular season this upcoming Sunday morning.

The Franklin Pierce University women's rugby team will travel to St. Anselm's College for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday. This game will not only mark the start of the season but the women's first game since last fall. Sophomore Natalie Cranston said, "I'm hoping the team comes together and puts out an effort of 110%. Were going out there not only to win but to play as a team."

Franklin Pierce's fall schedule will feature home games against Lyndon State College and Southern Vermont College on October 5 and 19. They will also travel on October 11 to face Green Mountain College. All games are currently scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

The team consists of over 25 women, including 12 returning players, who include sophomore fly half Aubre Pierce. "With all the new girls we need to put the team together. I think toward the end of the season we will be a better team then we are now," said Pierce

With only one returning senior, the Ravens are building for the future.  "Although we are a young team, we are a dedicated one," said Cranston. "Our goal is to play as a team, win games and become better for the upcoming years."

One other goal that the team wants to accomplish is respect. Both the men's and women's rugby teams are club sport, not affiliated with the NCAA.  "We practice, have games, and work hard just like every other sports team here. Both the men's and women's rugby teams work hard and play even harder," said Ally Billingsley, a sophomore prop for the team.

"We are more then a team, were like a family," said Pierce.

With two home games on the schedule this semester, the women's rugby team encourages everyone to come and support. Also for any women interested in joining the team, please contact pierceau@franklinpierce.edu for more information.
