Toby Martin: Where are you from?

Melissa Kapela
: Middle Village Queens, New York

TM
: What high school did you attend?

MK: Christ the King Regional High School

TM
: Do you have any siblings?

MK: I have an older sister and an older brother

TM
: How did it feel being the youngest child growing up?

MK: It was good. I was the baby of the family, so I was definitely more spoiled than my brother and sister. My parents were less strict with me.

TM
: What was your most memorable childhood experience?

MK: Going to Bermuda with my family

TM
: Your favorite color?

MK: Orange

TM
: Your favorite food?

MK: Pizza

TM
: Your favorite movie?

MK: "Love and Basketball"

TM
: Who is your greatest influence?

MK: My Mom

TM
: What made you decide to come to Franklin Pierce?

MK: I was recruited by Coach Swasey. I came here to play basketball. I also wanted to get away from home.

TM
: What are you majoring in?

MK: I am a history major with a concentration in teaching.

TM
: What are your plans after graduation?

MK: After graduation I will come back to Franklin Pierce to do a semester of student teaching. Once I'm done with that, I want to take a bit of time off, figure out what I really want to do. Graduate school is a possibility. Eventually I would like to teach social studies or history; the high school level would be my first choice. I would also really like to coach. I have been playing basketball since I was 5, and it's been a huge part of my life, so I'd like to stick with it.

TM
: What is one of your greatest experiences?

MK:  Going to the NCAA Division II Elite 8 with my team last year. In high school, my team also won the New York State Championship. So that's right up there as well. We were also ranked the number one high school team in the United States.
