Volleyball ready to start tournament run

The first round Northeast 10 tournament match up between the Bentley Falcons and the Franklin Pierce Volleyball team will mark the fourth straight year of the team making a tournament run.

The Ravens squeaked into the tournament this year with a 17-17 record and an 8-6 record in the league. The Falcons on the other hand are the third seed in the tournament after putting together a 20-10 season with a 12-2 record in the conference.

Junior Captain Katie Ristow is excited about the opportunity of going back to the tournament."Last year was a bit of a disappointment for us and we are very excited about getting back to the tournament this year, it is always one of our pre-season goals," she said.

The Ravens lost in the first round of last year's tournament in straight sets after having a successful 10-4 conference record.

The game will be played this Friday at seven o'clock on the home court of Pace University. Junior Meghan Feldmeth said, "It is one of my favorite places to play because of the success we have had there since I have been here at Pierce." The Ravens went 1-1 this season on Pace's home court beating Pace but losing to Adelphi early this year.

The Ravens success can be directly linked to the number of upperclassmen leadership on the team. Ristow said, "I wouldn't trade the leadership we have on this team for anything, at any time we are able to fall back on our experience" out of eleven players they have just one freshmen and three sophomores.

Coach Bonaventure has led the Ravens to a 53 and 43 in her first three years at Pierce.

If the Ravens are able to defeat the Falcons, who they lost to in their only meeting this season, they will play the winner of the Merrimack and Umass Lowell game on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by a championship game at 7 p.m. later that night.
