by Joseph Landini For the 17th straight year, the Franklin Pierce women's soccer team has earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and plays host to the East Sub Regional. The Ravens have won a NCAA Division II record five National Championships, not to mention two national appearances. Since regional play started in 1996, Franklin Pierce has won all twelve regionals. "It feels great to be this team. It's a team where every single player has so much talent. I know that we have a great shot at making it to Nationals this year again and winning," said sophomore Kelly Wegland. Franklin Pierce is the number two seed in the East regional and will play the winner of Friday's match up of the third seed St. Rose and sixth seed Georgian Court on Sunday at Sodexho Field. "It is always nice to be at home. The biggest advantage is having the bye for the first round," said head coach Jeff Bailey. The St. Rose-Georgian Court game will be played Friday at 2:00. If the college of St. Rose wins their first round, then it will set up the second meeting of the year between the two teams. The last meeting saw a 1-1 double overtime draw, to force a shootout. In the shootout Franklin Pierce lost in penalty kicks 5-3, making the college of St. Rose the champions of the Northeast-10. The other part of the East regional bracket will be hosted by the number one seeded Long Island University-C.W Post. They will play the winner of the game between the number five seed Merrimack and the fourth seeded Bridgeport. That game will be played on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Brookville, New York.
The two winners of the east regional bracket will play each other next
weekend at the higher seeds home field. |
