Re:         Summer Hours

With the permission of the President and Senior Staff I am pleased to announce to you the following schedule for summer hours.

For employees of the College at Rindge:

For the summer of 2009, we are offering you the opportunity to work nine hours Monday through Thursday (7-4:30) and Friday (8-Noon) beginning on Monday May 18 through August 14, 2009. During this time the University will change our normal business hours to Monday through Thursday (8- 4:30) and Friday (8-noon).

For the employees of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies:

For the summer of 2009, we are offering you the opportunity to work four ten hour days per week, beginning on Monday May 18th through August 14, 2009.  Please consult with your supervisor in consultation with the Dean regarding the schedule for your Center.

Here are the parameters for both the College of Rindge and College of Graduate and Professional Studies:

  • All non-exempt work schedules must meet 40-hours per week.

  • No overtime is to be used or approved during this period.

  • Both Exempt and non-exempt employees are encouraged to adopt this plan.

  • If an employee takes a full vacation, sick or personal day, their time will be deducted by the number of hours they were scheduled to work (9 or 4 respectively).

  • Holiday pay is always 8-hours. If a holiday falls on a Monday, the employee will need to either use one-hour of vacation/personal time or work with their supervisor to make up an hour. If the holiday falls on a Friday, again the supervisor needs to work with their staff to modify their work week by 4 hours so not to incur overtime.

  • As with our 8-hour day, all employees must take their 30-minute lunch and we encourage the use of their two-15 minute breaks.

Supervisors are to meet with their staff to discuss this revised work schedule.  If a staff member has issues with this schedule, the supervisor and the staff member can work with me to make this new work schedule fit.  Any changes from this plan would need to be brought to your appropriate Vice President for final approval.
