Franklin Pierce Special Announcement

Network Issues for Student Computers

Campus Manager will be activated on Saturday, April 2nd. This software will require you to register your PC on the network. This registration process will check your PC to ensure you have active virus-checking software and spyware removal software installed. It will determine if they are up-to-date with the current definitions. If your PC does not have these tools you will be redirected to our internal network to download and configure these preventative measures. If your computer is infected it will not be allowed back on the FPC network and access to the Internet.

It would be to your benefit if you make sure your PC is clean before Saturday, April 2. You can help solve the virus problem on the network by taking a proactive approach and cleaning your PC and protecting it from viruses. Even if you already have anti-virus on your PC, we strongly recommend that you install AVG, as most virus programs expire 90 days after you purchase your PC, leaving you unprotected.

We have provided access to these files below so that you do not have to download them off the internet. These will download to your PC in just a few seconds.

After downloading these files to your desktop, unplug your PC from the network.

Once you have the files saved to your desktop, please keep your PC off the network during this entire process. Leaving your PC off the network during this process does three things: 1) It prevents your machine from attacking others, 2) it prevents you from being reinfected and 3) it prevents most of the spyware from activating on your PC so that it will run better during this process.

These are the steps to take: (Note: When you click on a link you will see a box that asks if you want to run or save this file. Click Save and save it to your desktop. After you have saved all the files, disconnect your network cable. You may want to print this page first.)

1. Install AVG Anti-Virus and perform a full system scan. Remember it may take several hours to scan and repair your PC. Starting the scan process before you retire for the night would be a good idea.

2. Reboot your PC and then install Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows 2000 Service pack 4, depending on which operating system you have.

3. Once Windows Service Pack is installed, install one of the Anti-Spyware packages below and perform a system scan. Once it cleans your PC of spyware you may reboot and plug your machine back into the network.
