Franklin Pierce Special Announcement

Announcing Changes in Telephone Service at FPC

Beginning in the Summer of 2006 students will no longer need a PIN to make a toll free call. To call home and make long distance calls from the college, you will need to use pre-paid or billed calling cards, or home toll-free numbers.

To access an outside line to call locally or toll-free, simply dial “7” from any on-campus phone.

For incoming Freshmen, voicemail numbers will be provided by request only. Upperclassmen will retain their voicemail numbers as already assigned, until they graduate, withdraw or transfer from the college.

The use of cell phones, instant messaging and e-mail have prompted these changes in telephone service at Franklin Pierce. To improve cell service, US Cellular installed a repeater on our Library during the fall of 2005 and US Cellular and Verizon Wireless users found that their cell service improved noticeably. Nextel has recently installed a tower at the top of Pac Monadnock that improved service for their users in the area as well.

How will these changes affect the way we communicate at FPC? If you want a voicemail box or if you belong to a club, organization or group that communicates via distribution list in this manner, they will continue to be provided without charge. E-mail will be the official method of communication so we encourage every person – faculty, staff member, and student – to be sure to check their FPC e-mail every day. We are also looking into other methods of group messaging to continue to encourage productive and effective communication within our FPC community.

If you have any questions about these changes, please contact Marion Stone, in the Department of Information Technology. stonem@franklinpierce.edu or 603-899-1035.
